Minecraft Wilderness Bound is officially out as of today, September 15, 2026 — released simultaneously as Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50. We covered what was confirmed ahead of launch a week ago; this is the follow-up now that the update is actually live, covering exactly what shipped and whether anything changed on the way out.
What's actually in Wilderness Bound
The headline feature is a brand-new biome: the dappled forest. It generates near cold regions and uses a mix of red, orange and yellow Poplar canopies for a forest palette that looks nothing like anything currently in the game.
- Poplar trees — a new tree type with distinct fall-toned foliage, the centerpiece of the biome's look.
- Red Shrubs — ground-level detail blocks scattered through the dappled forest.
- Shelf Mushrooms — decorative fungi growing on tree trunks and fallen logs.
- Wool stairs and slabs — every wool color now has matching stair and slab variants, closing a long-standing building gap.
- Concrete stairs and slabs — same treatment for concrete, giving builders far more shaping options for modern builds.
- Straw beds and cushions — new decorative furniture pieces for cozy or rustic interiors.
- The abandoned camp — a new generated structure found in and around the dappled forest, with its own loot and layout.
What changed since the preview
Short answer: almost nothing. Java players have been testing this as Minecraft 26.3 through a run of snapshots and release candidates, and the last build before launch — RC2, published September 11 — shipped exactly one documented fix: a bug where clicking a button that opens a folder would freeze the game until the folder actually opened. Every feature that was previewed made it into the final release untouched. If you tested the snapshots, today's launch build will feel identical.
Where to find the dappled forest
The biome generates near cold areas, so it won't show up in existing warm-biome worlds without exploring further out or generating new chunks. If you're on an established world and want to see it quickly, the fastest route is heading toward existing taiga or snowy regions and continuing past them — the dappled forest tends to sit adjacent to that transition zone.
Is it worth updating today?
If you're a builder, yes — the wool and concrete stairs/slabs alone fill a gap players have been asking for since those blocks were added. If you're mainly after new exploration content, the abandoned camp structure is worth a dedicated trip, and the dappled forest is different enough visually that it's worth generating a fresh world or exploring outward to find one.
